A Place to Play
2022 - 2023
A Place to Play presents a series of paintings depicting various objects, toys and places associated with childhood, which, through a game of oil paint, convey a message originating in adulthood. See You at the Windmill (2023) depicts a 'meeting point' between two internal characters - the child and the adult - who agree to meet at a windmill, a space common to both realities. In Battlefield (2023), the players at the traditional football table disappear and the battlefield is replaced by a blood-red patch of light and shadow. In this way, the bold colours take us back to childhood, while the shadow plays force us to be present - attentive - to the intersection of two different realities. These paintings have no date or place. They carry only colour, lots of light, hope in anything and everything, while the abstract, the surreal and the real communicate with each other. The title A Place to Play also becomes a game of realities, where the real place to play is only painting.
